Is it okay to use a 40 inch max mount with a 47 inch TV?
Before you state the obvious please read on: I have a TV Mount– Adjustable Tilting/Swiveling Wall Mount Bracket for LCD LED Plasma Corner Friendly (Max 80Lbs, 23~40inch) . I have a 40 inch TV on it now and am not getting a 47 inch TV. The TV I am getting only weighs 40 Lbs so it is no where near the 80 Lbs max for this mount. It also will fit with its 200 mm VESA mount pattern onto this mount. That being said does anyone know if this would be okay to use with this mount or possible issues? It seems like the manufacturer might just want to sucker you into buying another mount. Thanks.

If the mount matches the screw pattern on the new TV and the weight does not exceed max weight what other variables could there be? Maybe weight/load distribution but if the new TV is the same weight as the old then the weight should be distributed better with the larger TV.
After it’s mounted check and make sure it’s stable. Another reason is when you originally bought the mount the TV’s weighed more and the manufacturer was playing it safe. Nobody wants a large flat screen falling on somebody.
It’s bad enough that alot of people don’t mount the brackets properly to begin with. They don’t mount into the studs but instead use toggle bolts which can rip right through the drywall.
