Keep in mind:
A lot of those cheap stud finders don’t work on plaster and lath construction.

You may be able to find the studs by examining the baseboard closely. Just look for where it has been nailed (that’s where the studs should be). Even if the nails have been puttied and painted, you may still be able to locate them.

Outlets and light switches are usually placed and mounted to the side of a stud.

Once you’ve found the center of a stud, other studs should be 16″ on center.
