Having Said That

720p is low resolution for a 50″ television. Go to the store and look at the TV next to a 1080p set and see if you can tell the difference. Stand about as far away from the televisions as you will be sitting when you watch the TV in your home. You SHOULD be able to see a difference within about 10 feet. If you don’t, then the set is fine for you!

The 720 set will use about 832,512 pixels to paint the picture on the screen.

A 1080 would use about 2,073,600 pixels to paint the same picture on the screen.

So you can how much higher the resolution of a 1080 model is. Generally most people can’t see the difference when the screen is below about 46″ unless they are very close to the screen. With the 50″, you would need to be less than about 10 feet from the set before most people could see any difference.

Samsung is a very good brand, and is a top-tier manufacturer of HD television. The price is good for a 50″, but that’s because most people want the 1080 resolution on a set that large whether they can SEE the difference or not.

Test it out next to a 1080 set and see what you think before you buy it.
